I am just trying to show a graph with date on the x axis and a number on the y-axis. When I put it in the line chart it is adding my values up within those months, I just want it to plot a normal graph with each of my points corresponding to the date. Is this possible in Power BI?

Sounds like you have one of a few possible things going on.
First you may have it set to date hierarchy in which case you should be able to drill down to the "Day" using the drill down buttons. See SS Below.
Or you can change it to Date instead of Date Hierarchy.
