Keep getting error of "don't support reading encrypted workbooks" but my Excel book is not protected

I was working on a Power BI dashboard and when I tried to refresh my database, the message appears: "We don't support reading encrypted workbooks Power Bi"

But my worksheet is not protected by any password or something like that.

The only thing is this worksheet is located on an online excel (sharepoint) and shared with some people that have organizational accounts. And I was able to refresh it some months ago, but now I can't.

How to fix?

Hi @miayuxin ,

I suggest you go to PowerBI Service to check if the connection to this excel file is Online.

If it is Offline, try to select "Edit credentials" in settings and verify the identity to restart the connection.

Check that your semantic model is using an online connection and unexpired credential, and then see if refreshing the semantic model can be successfully done.

Hi @miayuxin ,

How do you get data from excel file in PowerBI Desktop? Could you please provide screenshots of refresh setting page?

Best regards,

Mengmeng Li

I uploaded the excel files to Sharepoint, and import those excel files through sharepoint link on Power BI.

Those excel files don't have any possword encrypted.

It works around 2 years, but suddenly it keeps running errors from yesterday. image.png
