KPI Visual Selection Help
Our company operates with a hierarchical structure where I oversee regions, each of which contains branches, and branches further comprise territories. These territories are delineated by one or more zip codes, and each is managed by a dedicated salesperson.
Our users have expressed a need to access key performance indicators (KPIs) within this structure. Initially, they wish to view all regions alongside their current sales dollar amounts and corresponding KPI targets. Following this, they seek the ability to expand selected regions to reveal all associated branches, including their respective sales figures and KPI targets.
Furthermore, users desire the functionality to drill down further, expanding individual branches to display all salespersons within them, complete with their current sales dollar amounts and pertinent KPI targets.
It's important to note the dynamic nature of these KPIs:
- Different regions have distinct KPIs.
- Similarly, KPIs vary among branches.
- Additionally, each salesperson is assigned specific KPIs tailored to their role.
To effectively address this requirement, it's crucial to employ a visual representation that accommodates the hierarchical nature of our organizational structure while also providing clarity on varying KPIs. What visual do you recommend for the above scenario? How to implement it?

The Matrix visual in Power BI is ideal for displaying data in a hierarchical structure. It allows you to nest data, similar to how your organization is structured into regions, branches, and territories. You can easily expand or collapse these levels to view the detailed KPIs at each level. Additionally, the Matrix visual supports conditional formatting, which can be used to visually highlight how the actual sales figures compare against the KPI targets.
Drag and drop your hierarchical fields (Regions, Branches, Territories) into the Rows area of the Matrix visual. Then, add your sales dollar amounts and KPI targets into the Values area.Create a matrix visual in Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
Enabled the drill down feature in the Matrix visual. This allows users to start at the top level (Regions) and drill down into more detailed levels (Branches, Territories).Drill mode in the Power BI service - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
