Issue with Map Visuals in Power BI Using Personal Account

Hi, I'm facing an issue when trying to create map visuals in Power BI Desktop. I am using a personal Microsoft account and do not have access to a corporate account.

I have enabled the option "Use map and filled map visuals" under File > Options > Security, but I receive the following message:

"You have not approved any authentication service on this computer."

My account is a personal email (bhruno5@hotmail.com), and the system seems to require a corporate account for authentication. Is there any way to bypass this limitation or another solution to enable map visuals in Power BI Desktop?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi @Bhruno5 - Currently, there’s no direct way to bypass the requirement for a corporate account for these visuals in Power BI Desktop using your personal account. The best solution is to use a work account, whether through a trial or by creating a suitable organizational identity.

If you can, obtain a free Microsoft 365 trial (which includes a work account) and use that account to authenticate in Power BI Desktop. This will give you access to map visuals and other features tied to organizational accounts.

Instead of the default Map and Filled Map visuals, you can use third-party custom visuals, such as Mapbox or Shape Maps, available in the Power BI Visuals Marketplace. These may not require AAD authentication and provide rich mapping capabilities.

Hope this helps.

Solved! I discovered that I needed to access the Tenant settings and approve access at that level. 15 minutes later, everything works as expected. Whew, what a roller coaster ride!

Hi @Bhruno5

Novypro used to provide a free-tier Power BI account under its domain but starting this year its subscription model changed and it now requires a premium subscription. Try with Maven Analytics if they provide the same service. Otherwise, you will need to buy a custom domain and setup email forwarding. As far as I can remember namecheap provides email forwarding if you buy a custom domain from them.

Hi- I'm having the same problem as above. I created a "corporate account" using a workaround that provides me the onmicrosoft.com "email address" for my Power BI service. I went into workspace settings > Preferences > Item Settings and selected "Use ArcGIS for Power BI." I then went to my Power BI desktop, validated that maps were allowed: Options and settings > Options > Security > Map and Filled Map Visuals [checked Use Map and Filled Map Visuals]. I logged out of my desktop intance, restarted the desktop instance, and the problem remains.

Thoughts or suggestions?
