Issue with Date Filtering in Power BI Using JavaScript

I am facing an issue with date filtering in Power BI using JavaScript. My date column is formatted as "Saturday, April 10, 2021," which is not compatible with Power BI's expected format.

As a result, my attempts to filter the report using JavaScript are not yielding the desired results. I have tried several methods to convert the date to the correct format in my JavaScript code, but I still haven't been able to make it work.

Could you please assist me in converting the date from "Saturday, April 10, 2021" format to the format Power BI expects in JavaScript? I have attached a sample of my JavaScript code for your reference.

function convertDateFormat(longDate) {
const dateObj = new Date(longDate);
const year = dateObj.getFullYear();
const month = (dateObj.getMonth() + 1).toString().padStart(2, '0');
const day = dateObj.getDate().toString().padStart(2, '0');
return `${year}-${month}-${day}`;
}

const startDate = 'Saturday, April 10, 2021';
const endDate = 'Saturday, March 5, 2022';
const convertedStartDate = convertDateFormat(startDate);
const convertedEndDate = convertDateFormat(endDate);

console.log(convertedStartDate);
console.log(convertedEndDate);
console.log("filtering based on date range");

const basicFilterForDateRange = {
$schema: "http://powerbi.com/product/schema#basic",
target: {
table: "table_name",
column: "Date"
},
operator: "Between",
values: [convertedStartDate,convertedEndDate],
filterType: models.FilterType.BasicFilter
};

I think you should you should try using Advanced Filter instead of Basic Filter which is generally more robust for ranges in the JavaScript API.

For range-based filtering (Between), the AdvancedFilter is the standard requirement.

Also Power BI expects:

  • Either JavaScript Date objects
  • Or ISO 8601 datetime strings with time (YYYY-MM-DDTHH:mm:ss)

So that needs to be fixed too. Let me know how it goes!
