Is there an automated process to install latest version of Power BI Desktop?

What is best practice for updating to latest version of Power BI Desktop?  Only our IT admin can perform the updates.  Does the Power BI service also need regular updates or is this accomplished with the overall MS push updates?  Thank you!

There are two ways for us to download Power BI Desktop.

If you download the Power BI Desktop in web site, you need to update it manually every month from web site.

If you download the Power BI Desktop in Microsoft Store, it will update automatically every month.

Download of Power BI DT from MSFT store didn't provide the solution for automatic updates monthly.  What would prevent this from occurring? Thanks.

Hi lijoyce,

currently, there is a different lifecycle  between PowerBI Desktop and PowerBI Service.

• PowerBI Desktop: updates are released on monthly basis, but you have the control if update the version on your laptops.
• PowerBI Service: updates are released on weekly basis and MSFT push the update directly without any control from your side.

If you need the control on the release I suggest to evaluate PowerBI Report server, in this case, you have the duty of manage the instances.
