Hello all,
I am trying to incorporate a colored "category" legend that would also serves as a slicer for my report. It seems like it should be easy but is not.
I am kind of disappointed this is not built into PBI. I have watch users intuitively try to click my static legend over and over.
I have proposed this capability here.
Below is what I have now. It uses the Chiclet add-on, creative padding, transparancy and separate colored objects .
However, this approach is dependent on all data categories being represented in the dataset so the colors line up, which is not guaranteed.
Adding "dummy" records to ensure representation of all categories, creates "(Blank)" values in my other slicer drop-downs (fly-out panel not shown). Page filters to remove these, also affect the slicer.
Round and round it goes.
Things I have tried:
What am I missing? Any other suggestions?
Thank you.
@Anonymous whatever you throw on the value section in the matrix visual, you can apply conditional formatting to that measure. Just click the arrow next to what you have in the value section and that is where you will find conditional formatting options.

@Anonymous I think it is going to be a mix of matrix visual and conditional formatting, but the experience with matrix visual is not going to be great, as you will able to slice the data by clicking on one cell and to select multiple cells, one has to hold the cells, it is not a TRUE slicer but can surely do the job.
And of course, color codes for each category will be stored in a table so that the same colors can be applied using conditional formatting.

@parry2k,
Apologies, I have only just started exploring Conditional Formatting and I don't see where to apply it anywhere in the matrix visual.
Can you point me in the right direction?
Thank you.
