Heya,
I'm having a problem that i don't really get since i haven't made changes to the pbi in over 4 months. At that time a full update took around 5-10 mins on powerbi net version. I recently update the gateway since i was having som "can't reach" problems and it recommended me to do it. Long story short, a update on desktop version now takes hours stuck in creating connection in model
I first noticed there was a problem on the net version since it was taking so long to update so i went to desktop version to try and troubleshoot this.
I've tried the solutions in this topic: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Desktop/stucking-on-creating-connection-in-model/td-p/276796
- but didn't help me unfortunately. So what is going on? Why am i experencing these problems when i've practically changed nothing with the .pbi
Hi @pantrax ,

A couple of excel files and about 10 tables from 2 databases. ASA 12 If i remeber correctly. But this is after import... and it worked fine just up till now. Sure it's a lot of data from the databases..
Hi @pantrax ,
You could check if your Excel files have extra blank rows or columns.
For example, you have a small file but its blank rows or columns may be 65000 which will result in large model size.
If you could find it, you need to delete these blank contents.
It's by no means a small report if that's what you're thinking. Then again I'm positive there's a lot bigger ones out there. I guess I'll delete excel requests one by one to see if I can find a culprit
