Initial import of on-prem data into desktop app outside of company firewall

How do we import on-prem data from sql server or sql server analysis services (behind the company firewall) into the Power BI Desktop App (outside of the company firewall)?

Is this possible?  I am unable to get the data into the desktop app.  I understand we need the gateway to refresh data from the service (cloud) for on-prem data.  I am able to access the databases via Citrix in SSMS.  When attempting to download Power BI Desktop in Citrix, the process fails.  The database is accessible via another analytical tool.

I needed PowerBI desktop added to my Citrix environment.  This solved the issue. Thank you for your help.
