Implement RLS in semantic model using AAD and Tabular Editor

Our team transitioned to using Tabular Editor 2 for deploying data models to Power BI Service. I am trying to implement RLS in a data model using AAD groups. I added the roles in the power bi file, applied filters on certain columns in specific tables based on the roles, opened the pbix file using Tabular Editor, saving a copy of the model as a bim file, opened the file to add the member info to each role (i.e., added the AzureAD member, member ID, member name, and member type) in Tabular Editor. When I deploy the model I get an error message about the role membership being invalid. I tried using the actual name of the AAD group and object ID as the member ID with no luck. When I tested the roles in the desktop file, the RLS works as expected. However, I cannot deploy the model with the roles to the service.

What step(s) am I missing? Or is there a better way to implement RLS using AAD groups than starting with PBI desktop and deploying using Tabular Editor?

Hi, @bjsa

According to your description, you want to implement RLS in AAD and Tabular Editor, you can refer to the official documentation below to check if there is any error in your steps, to ensure the configuration is correct, please make sure the following conditions hold.

1. Ensure that the AAD group names or object IDs used as member IDs match exactly between the Power BI file and the Tabular Editor.
2. Verify that the AAD group members are correctly associated with the roles in the form editor.
3. Check for any conflicting permissions or filters that may cause errors during deployment.
