I don't know what version of Power BI desktop are others using. I see a lot o samples with movies etc when using DirectQuery mode (MS Sql Server) and Import mode. On my version this seams not to be posibile.
If I create a direct query connection then after when trying to import an excel I get this:
If I start first with Import mode (also MS SQL) when I try to add another source I get this:
Direct query is not available.
I read that since 2018 this thing is posible.
I use Power BI Desktop Version: 2.121.1642.0 64-bit (september 2023)
Thanks for any help, I didn't find found any solution two nights in a row ..

RS means Report Server. That's most likely not what you want. Latest Power BI Desktop can be found here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=58494
Actualy it is. Unfortuately this RS is my destination (since the business I work is confidential and the client don't want any cloud or other online services - onpremise only).
See this:
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/compare-report-server-service
So that's why composite model is not available. Even if now I succeed to do mixed mode is not helping me because the report can't be deployed on onpremise RS.
Any way I've learn something :).
Thank you very much @lbendlin !!!
@lbendlin Can you make two queries each one with different mode on the same report with power BI desktop?
works fine for me
While you can do it, you cannot do it in the same query. So create two queries against the same data source, one query in Direct Query mode and one in Import mode.
Incidentally that's how aggregated/hybrid tables work.
If I create Query 1=>direct query the second one canot be in Import mode (I try to the same server).
If I chose one of mode on the second query the other mode is disabled, it doesen't matter wich I start with...
