The error you're seeing, "An internal error prevented loading the model schema associated with this report," is often encountered when connecting to SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) cubes in Power BI. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Check Power BI Version: Ensure you’re using the latest version of Power BI Desktop. Sometimes, updates resolve connectivity issues with SSAS.

2. Verify SSAS Permissions: Ensure that you have the necessary permissions on the SSAS server. You may need "Read" or "Process" permissions depending on your setup.

3. Check Data Source Configuration:
- If you’re using "Live Connection," make sure SSAS is configured for live connections and that it’s accessible from your network.
- Check that the SSAS instance is properly configured to allow external connections and that there are no firewall or network restrictions.

4. Verify Compatibility Mode: If your SSAS model is in Tabular mode, make sure it is in Compatibility Level 1200 or above for optimal compatibility with Power BI.

5. Clear Cache and Restart:
- In Power BI Desktop, go to File > Options and Settings > Data Load, then clear the cache and try reconnecting.
- Restart Power BI Desktop and try to connect again.

6. Examine Error Details: Click on "Copy details to clipboard" in the error message, paste the details into a text editor, and review the error log. This can sometimes give specific error codes or details about the failure.

7. Network and Security: Check if there are any network or security policies in place that might prevent Power BI from reaching the SSAS instance. Proxy or VPN configurations might also impact connectivity.

If the issue persists, you might want to reach out to Power BI support, as the error suggests, especially if none of these steps resolve the problem.

Hi @amitchandak I have pasted error information below the post, are you able to see?

  • Review Performance Trace Logs:

    • Since the error message mentioned "Performance Trace Logs," you could review the log files located at:

C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\PerformanceTraces.zip

  • These logs can contain more detailed information about what might be causing the schema loading issue.
  • Contact Power BI Support:

    • If the issue persists, consider reaching out to Power BI Support with the detailed error report. Including the session ID and error details from the "Frown (Error)" feedback you provided could help them investigate further.
