HI all,
I have been requested to continuously display a report page on an independent display in the CEO office (urk!). The page should automatically refresh itself every - say - 15 minutes.
According to this article https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/create-reports/desktop-automatic-page-refresh there should be an appropriate setting to do this; however I have no "refresh" settings in PBI Desktop:
The report is connected live to a PBI dataset in a Premium Capacity (F64) workspace
And according to the article mentioned above this is a supported scenario to configure automatic refresh:
What am I missing? If this feature isn't available anymore, is there any other way to achieve the desired result?
Thanks in advance,
Gianfranco

Understood! And agree, if that's what asked from leadership we shall comply! What's happening is that that Page refresh setting appears only with explicit Direct Query connections (Anybody would assume it's the same as the Live connection) and Power BI treats different a live connection. What you need to do is change the storage mode to Direct Query:
Click on Make changes to this model, then Add a local model:
Leave everything checked and then click Submit
Wait for the changes to be applied and voilá!

AH! I will give it a try!
Thank you very much!
I hope it helped! If so, kindly mark as solved so it can be of future reference for other users 🙂

The report consumes the data from another semantic model, thus what you need to update every 15 minutes is that other semantic model (you can set a refresh every 15 minutes with Power Automate connectors). Next step is that your report needs to be published and shown from the Power BI Service, not the Desktop (it won't pick the changes until you refresh manually again the file or you add/interact with a new visual).
On a personal note, why is a refresh needed every 15 minutes? I highly doubt the retail performance will change significantly (or even moderately) in a 15 minute timespan.

Hi @ray_aramburo , thank you for your feedback;
The underlying dataset is already refreshed at the desired frequency; what I need is to refresh the report page, to reflect changes in the underlying dataset.
Why every 15 minutes? well... basically because CEO asked for that! as Virgilio replied to Caronte in Dante's Inferno: "vuolsi così colà dove si puote ciò che si vuole, e più non dimandare" ("This deed has so been willed where He can do Whatever He wills; this is enough for you.", more or less)
Apart from that that, some KPIs, namely footfall, update every 15 minutes.
