How to have Bookmarks to remember the slicer filters

I have seen and tried the Solution provided for this post by @PijushRoy

I tried it, but in my case my bookmarks become unresponsive.

So here's my report: have 3 slicers, 2 tables and 2 buttons hooked up with the two bookmarks. The bookmarks display one table with an additional column or the other table with the common columns only. It works fine except after clicking on a button, it doesn't remember the slicer states and brings All the data instead.

So I tried the solution provided by Pijush Roy like swithing from All visuals to Selected visuals and when I did it, the bookmarks don't respond anymore, not in the Development UI nor in Published report.

Looks like I am missing something here.

Please provide some inputs.

Thank you,

nhuda

1 ACCEPTED SOLUTION

You definitely need to update the bookmarks and probably uncheck the Data mark on the bookmarks before you update them. Please take a look to this sample file, might help you 🙂

So @ray_aramburo and @PijushRoy ,

My problem happening when creating the second bookmark with "Selected visuals". When I am using just deafult "All visuals", then no problem, bookmarks, button clicks working fine. But When I try to use "Selected visuals", I create the first one and update it, no problem. As soon as I create the 2nd one:

1) with All visuals: the first one loses the "hiding" of the visuals - so everything is visible, but both are responsive and brings whatever is not hidden

2) updated with Selected visuals: both loses the bookmark functionality - everything is displayed, so nothing is hidden, as a result, clicking the buttons does not make any difference.

The image below shows that the bookmarks are losing the "hiding" part of the tables when I switch to Selected visuals:

It's happening somewhere when the 2nd one is created/updated

Hi @ray_aramburo ,

I tested your file and it works fine. However, I am still not able to make it work. I followed @PijushRoy suggestion to select the corresponding table when creating the bookmarks and combined with yours to Select "Selected visuals" and uncheck Data and then Update (in your bookmarks, the Data is checked for both).

But problem is, they become unresponsive as soon as I switch from All visuals to "Selected visuals" .

Can you please provide the steps if you don't mind. Not sure what's wrong in my case.

Thank you,

nhuda

Did you update immediately the bookmark after clicking on Selected Visuals with only selecting the needed visuals in the Selection pane?

Yes I did, right after creating the bookmark with one table as visible and the other as hidden and the visible one as selected, I updated it with "Selected visuals'.  Then I proceed onto the 2nd one with the table's visibility switched. Right after going from All visuals to Selected visuals, they lose the linking with the visuals (one visible and other hidden), and instead both becomes visible for both bookmarks. I tried selecting the bookmark and redoing the hiding and then updaing the bookmarks, with no result.

However, I am marking your's as Accepted as Solution because it provides a working solution. Would be very curious to know why it's behaving like that and not working for me. Is it that I am not following the right order or some glitch somewhere.

Regards,

nhuda

Sometimes it's better to delete the bookmarks and start from scratch, if you don't have any issues you can share with me your pbix file (can share my email through DM) and I can help you to configure them correctly

Hi @PijushRoy ,

Yes, that is the basic requirement and that part is working fine with the 2 bookmarks. What is not working is when they switch from one table visual from the other, it loses the slicer filter selections the user selected and looks like bookmarks remember only the state the visuals were in when bookmarks were created in the designer and doesn't have capability beyond that.

But please suggest if there're any other way to achieve that.

Regards,

nhuda

Hi @nhuda

To achieve this, as you created two table for switch, same way you need to create two slicer.
Bookmark should be switch both table & slicer.
Or in place of using bookmark, you can switch pages by button click, this is more easier and low-maintenance

Let me know if that works for you

Hi @nhuda
Thanks @ray_aramburo
This is your requirement, please confirm
"The bookmarks display one table with an additional column or the other table with the common columns only."

Probably the bookmarks were set up incorrectly. Pijush's recommendation is the solution. First select only the slicer visuals (ensure they have the selections you require). Then, create the bookmark, go to more options > Selected visuals, go back again to more options and click Update. Doublecheck by clicking on the bookmarks and see if they work.

Hi @Ray ,

Thank you for the response and suggestion.

I tried it but did not have any new outcome.

So to find out what I am not doing right, let me confirm I understand it correctly:

1)  First select only the slicer visuals (ensure they have the selections you require) - do you mean ONLY the slicer visuals, not that table that displays/hides the additional column.

2) Also what do you mean by "ensure they have the selections you require" - slicers come with the available data options like below:

nhuda_1-1717017163618.png

Users will select the slicer filters when running the report. So when creating the bookmarks, I don't need to worry about what data or selection is there correct?

Regards,

nhuda

Ah, since you mentioned that it doesn't remember the slicer states I thought you were using the slicer visuals and not referred to filters applied on the tables. Basically you just want a toggle to show/hide 2 different tables right? In that case, you only need to select the tables to save the bookmark. Ensure that the adequate Show/Hide visual icon is present and follow the 3 (annoying) steps I mentioned previously.
