How to enable refreshes in my Power BI report even when my PC is turned off?

Hi,

I have a published report that I want to refresh even when my PC is turned off. My data sources are hosted on onedrive and sharepoint. However, whenever I tried to refresh it when my PC is off, it says

Can someone help me with this?

Hi @HersonD - If you are using Personal Gateway, your computer must be on for the refresh to work. To avoid this, switch to Standard Gateway (On-premises Data Gateway), which does not require your computer to be on.

Download and install the On-premises Data Gateway from the Power BI Gateway | Microsoft Power BI

During setup, ensure you configure it for the correct data source connection (OneDrive or SharePoint) that your report relies on.That the credentials for your OneDrive or SharePoint account are up to date and correct in Power BI.

The scheduled refresh settings for your dataset are configured correctly, including setting proper refresh intervals.

If your report is based only on cloud data sources, such as OneDrive and SharePoint, you technically shouldn't need a gateway.

After applying these steps, your scheduled refreshes should work even when your PC is off. If the issue persists, there may be a problem with how the data connections or gateway is set up in your Power BI environment.

Hi @HersonD

For OneDrive and SharePoint data sources, you don't need a gateway. You can set up a scheduled refresh in Power BI Service. Here’s a helpful tutorial on setting up OneDrive/SharePoint refresh:

(very easy to follow step by step guide)
If you are using on-premises data sources, you’ll need to install the On-Premises Data Gateway. The gateway ensures secure connectivity for data refreshes. Here are links to guides for installing and configuring the On-Premises Data Gateway:
