How to edit the range of timeline slicer

My data has dates that start from Q4 of 2014 and go up to today. At this moment the timeline slicer shows as selectable the whole 2014 and 2016. How can I cut the range down to the true dates of my data?

Also using the same data how can I cut the timeline slicer to just show the current year and be able to select a data range from the current year?

Do you have a calendar table with the columns you want to use?  Read about that here.

To to limit a time line slicer, you could try to apply the page or report level filters from the right sidebar. I haven't done it with timeline slicers, but got this same approach to limit my play axis on a bubble chart recently.

I will not give you bad advice, even if you unknowingly ask for it.

At first I was using just the dates from my data table which are not consistent and are sporadic. The timeline slicer works that way but I get the whole of 2014 and 2016 to pick range from.

After that I created a dynamic calendar table and still the same.

I tried the filter way too, but for some reason I can't place any filter in the timeline slicer. And page or report filters dont work either. They filter the rest of my data but the timeline slicer remains the same.

I am actually not sure what the problem is you are trying to solve.  Here is a demo of a timeline slicer "working" in my view.

Can you please try to explain what is "not working" in your scenario.

My data starts from Q3 of 2014 and goes up to today. The timeline slicer shows as slectable Q1 & Q2 of 2014 and dates after today. I want to be able to select only between Q3 of 2014 and today. Anyway, it looks like it fixed itself cause today that I opened it, it works fine.

Another question though, if I wanted the reciever of the report to be able to filter the timeline slicer how would I do that? for example if I keep it unfilter he will be able to see all the data since the existance of the company, but If he wants to select only the last year how could he filter the timeline slicer within the report to show only the last years data? Right now the reciever of the report is able to scroll through all the years and select the range he wants, but if he wants to select only some data within the last year it becomes hard when you have data tha spans multiple years, the timeline slicers becomes too crowded.

Well you could try to add a regular slicer for Year.  If that slicer is applied, maybe the time line slicer will refelect that - I don't know.

Already tried that. It kinda worked. My problem is that whatever I use (slicer, page level filter etc.) my data does get filter but the timeline slicer range doesn't change. It changes only when I refresh the page on Power BI Service or when I restart the app on Power BI Desktop. So basically if I filter my data for let's say 2015 the data does get filtered but on the timeline slicer 2014 and 2016 are still selectable. If I save and restart the desktop app though the timeline just shows 2015. The same goes for Power BI Service, if I save and refresh the the timeline slicer shows only 2015 as selectable.

Well custom visuals are just that - custom.  You should raise a specific bug with the developer so they can improve the behaviour.
