How to access SAP BW Bex variables in Power BI service

Hi All,

I am creating a Power BI report using direct query connectivity. My requirement is to access the same SAP BW Bex variables in Power BI Service. 

I can view the variables from Power BI desktop using "Edit Variables". Can someone please suggest on how to view the variables from Power BI Service.

Note: I have already enabled the below setting.

Thank you for engaging with the Microsoft Fabric Community. You are correct when using DirectQuery with SAP BW, you can access and modify BEx variables in Power BI Desktop through the  Edit Variables  option. In Power BI Service, the process is a bit different.

To view and interact with SAP BW BEx variables in Power BI Service, please ensure the following

1. The report is using DirectQuery mode for SAP BW.
2. It is published to a Premium or shared workspace (not a personal workspace).
3. Single Sign On (SSO) is set up on your on premises data gateway.
4. The gateway is updated to the latest version.
5. The  Allow report readers to change SAP variables  setting is enabled in the semantic model (which you have already done).

Once published, users should see an  Edit variables  link in the Filter pane of the report in Power BI Service. This lets them select values for the BEx variables similar to the experience in Desktop, but through the Service interface.

@V-yubandi-msft  - Thanks for the details.  All the below pointers are done but I still cannot see the edit variables option in the filter pane

1. The report is using DirectQuery mode for SAP BW. -- Done

Thank you for confirming that everything is set up correctly, including DirectQuery mode, the Premium workspace, SSO, the updated gateway, and the setting that lets report readers change SAP variables.

Here are a few additional steps you can try.

1. The Edit Variables option in the filter pane may take about five minutes to appear after publishing the report.

2. Manually refresh the semantic model

3. This can help rule out any browser cache or session issues by opening the report in private/incognito mode or another browser.

Please let me know if it still isn’t appearing, and we can explore the next steps or submit a support ticket if necessary.

Hi @V-yubandi-msft  - We waited for 24hrs after republish and still did not show up "Edit Variable" in the filter pane.

Semantic model was also manually refreshed and we still cannot see the option.
