I’m creating a Power BI report for our upcoming Staff Conference event. The goal is to display the seating plan and indicate which tables are free and which are occupied.
I have the floor plan layout, but I don’t need to use it as a background image. Instead, I’d like to represent each table as a bubble or circle and apply color coding based on seat bookings (e.g., green for available, red for occupied).
I know Synoptic Panel is a great solution for this, but since it’s a paid option, I’m looking for a free alternative within Power BI. Excel supports bubble charts, but Power BI doesn’t have a direct equivalent. I considered using a scatter chart for this purpose, but I’m unsure how to implement it effectively.
Has anyone tried a similar approach or can suggest the best way to achieve this in Power BI without using paid visuals?Seating Plan

As an alternative to displaying the table number directly on the scatter markers, you may want to enhance the use of tooltips to improve usability. By configuring a rich tooltip, you can display key details such as the table number, total seats, occupied seats, available seats, and even a status indicator when users hover over a marker. This approach keeps the visual clean while still allowing users to quickly identify and understand each table without needing to click on it, making it a practical workaround given the limitations of the native scatter chart.

If you need a free solution, you can do this using shape maps. First, you need to convert your image to a supported JSON format and then use the shape map visual. Please read through this article.
@VivekN You could use a scatter chart with a simple table that listed the table number, x and y coordinates and whether the table was full, empty or partially full. Maybe instead have number of seats available total and number of seats filled. Then you could create a measure that you use for conditionally formatting the colors.
