How to Schedule a Publish

Hi I have a Power BI report (Pbix file - Desktop) with all data imported (not Direct Query)

I managed to schedule a refresh of the data in the pbix file.

But is there a way to schedule a Publish (so the client can see it on the web) , or do I have to open the file evey few hours and hit the Publish Button?

Hi

Thanks

What I was doing to check the Publish was drawing a line on the pbix file and it was not appearing when i refreshed.

I have now discoverred that the data is refreshing 🙂 ,  but any physcal changes to the pbix I need to publish from the Desktop App, which is not a problem

Hey - if you mean you have scheduled a refresh on powerBI service I assume - (something like in the screenshot) then there's no need to also schedule a publish (this isn't really an option as far as i'm aware). The underlying data should refresh, so the web version is up-to-date. If the screenshot doesn't look familiar, check out the tutorial: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/refresh-scheduled-refresh

Hey @Garbo62 ,

not sure what you mean by " ... schedule a refresh of the data in the pbix file."

If you want to share content/data with a client or colleague, sharing involves a Power BI App, not the pbix file. For this you publish the report to a workspace and a create an app.

This article explains how to configure a dataset refresh: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/connect-data/refresh-data?WT.mc_id=DP-MVP-5003068

Hopefully, this helps to tackle your challenge.

Regards,

Tom
