Hi,
I realize there are multiple posts on slow data loads to Power BI Desktop, but the responses I've seen just talk about shaping/paring down your data. However, I believe my issue is because our data is stored in Arizona, and we're developing in Florida. I say this because I tested loading 5 tables into Power BI Desktop on (1) my laptop in FL and (2) Power BI running on a server in Arizona. Below are the results for increasingly larger data sets. Even if we pare down the data, the loads and reloads take forever, slowing development time to a crawl.
Has anyone figured out a solution for this?
Thanks.
Hi @nfietz ,
What connection mode are you using to connect to the data source?
Take a look at the dataflow:

It is a cloud-based data preparation technology that offers the benefits of security and collaboration.

Hi @Anonymous ,
Thanks for your response. We are starting to use dataflows for Oracle and Teradata connections (done via import mode); however, to use them, we first need to create them, which still requires development. Even if I try to do the development of the dataflow within the service (vs. refine the query in Desktop), it's still slow, so I don't think the dataflow addresses my problem of refining the data sets.
