How to Connect Azure Cosmos DB from Power BI Desktop with Securely?

Hi All, I need help.

I need to access Cosmos DB from Power BI desktop, In Azure Portal without selecting the option to "Accept connections from within global Azure datacenters." Is there any alternative method to connect securely?

Please find below screenshot for your reference.

Hi @durgaraop21 ,

You can open this link :Configure an IP firewall for your Azure Cosmos DB account | Microsoft Learn .This article goes into detail about the function of this option, and I think it's a safe bet to turn it off.

If you're wondering how to connect to Azure Cosmos DB in Power BI Desktop, use the URI of the Azure Cosmos DB account, and you can retrieve the URL from the URI box in the keys blade of the Azure portal. This link will help you: Power Query Azure Cosmos DB v2 (Beta) - Power Query | Microsoft Learn.

@v-linhuizh-msft , Thank for your reply,
I am facing issue with this option selecting the Accept connections from within Azure datacenters,  I am able to access,  other wise i got error msg "Access forbidden issue".
Client is not accepting to enable this option.

Do you have any other ideas?

Hi @durgaraop21 ,

You can try to check if the firewall is blocking access to powerbi and add all powerbi related URLs to the allowed list. You can check against the following link: Add Power BI URLs to allowlist - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn
