How do I paste Excel tables to PowerBI as Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object?

Capture.png

Hi everyone, I'm trying to move from PowerPoint to PowerBI. My data source is Excel. Usually if I want to present data in PowerPoint from Excel, I would copy from Excel and paste in PowerPoint as a linked Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object. That way it retains all the formating and style of the original table in Excel, and I am able to refresh it by right clicking the object.

I would like to do the same but this time using PowerBI. Is there a way to copy a table from Excel and paste it in PowerBI as a linked Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object? Uploading the Excel data directly to the PowerBI would not work for me since it does not retain the formatting and styles. In addition, there are many hidden rows and column in my Excel files which would make transforming the data in PowerBI really tedious. Also, there will be many Excel files, tables and sheets involved so transforming the data one by one would not be ideal.

Any help is much appreciated, thank you!

@amitchandak  Thank you for the great suggestion and sorry for the late reply, I have gone through the videos and tried it myself, the suggestion technically could solve my issue since the dashboard is able to present the Excel table as is, while retaining the style and formatting via the embeded link. However, this is only available for paid subscription members right? What about for free users? Is there any workaround on it? I will continue to find a viable solution for free users. Thank you.

@Jer_Shern , No. You can upload data. Or you can upload on SharePoint tor one drive and use that link or URL

Hi @amitchandak , I have read through the article you had given. However, I do not understand as how adding URLs to a table helps. Am I able to retain the the original Excel file's table view, formating and styling with the URL?

@Jer_Shern , There is one more way, adding excel in power bi service app from SharePoint. These are for different usecases. But see if that can fit in you requirements
