When the credentials change to access our SQL database, anytime anyone enters the wrong password or they accidentally have old credentials somewhere saved in their project, it queries it numberous times then locks us out of the database.
Is there a way to say, if password incorrect, stop and give error message instead of trying to hit the database an excessive number of times? After the password is wrong once, it's never going to be right.

You can add connection time out for connection, under advance option
I agree, is a problem we have, too.
We would need to "force" Power BI to give a message with the authentication error instead of to try several times to connect, because that lead to the lock of the user.
