The idea is that I will be able to drill up from the detailed table to see the summary table. Does anyone know how to create such a thing?

Please try to use bookmarks.
Bookmarks save the current filters and slicers, cross-highlighted visuals, sort order, and so on. When others view your report, they can get back to that exact state by selecting your saved bookmark.
When you create a bookmark, the following elements are saved with the bookmark:

@HamidBee why do you want a new table when you can visualize the same with the matrix visual. Put the date on rows, Letter on the column, and count on values and that will do it.
