How can I set custom date filter on line chart for comparison in Power BI?

Hello, 
I have created a line chart to compare the previous period's data and it's working fine for the same date period for the current date and compare date. but when I select a different date period it's not working to compare data. for example, if I have to select date as per the below SS count shows as per my requirement working fine.

But, when I select the date as per the below SS the comparison line would not work.

Could you please help or guide me to fix this issue?

Hey Thanks, Joe for your quick reply.

As per your suggestion, I can do that I can create it for the same period comparison,  but my second requirement as per the screenshot is not in your suggested video.

I will be happy if you can send more vedios or suggession to solve my issue Thanks once Again.

Yes, it works for the category but I am tired of the date column. I can see the data for the trend line only for date not for comparison date.
Below is the screenshot for your referance.

I am try to get compare data using date column. please share your best solutions.
