How can I create a default date slicer as YTD

I'm trying to create a defualt date range of YTD in my date slicer. It also needs to include other dates as an alternate choice. Does anyone have a method to accomplish this?

Rick de Groot, "BI Gorilla", has a good video on setting a default for a slicer. It's certainly worth a watch and may be just what you are looking for.
