Hierarchy created automatically

Hi

When I imported my dataset, PBI automatically changes the Date into Date Hierarchy. But I just want dates (i.e 2022-09-01). How can I change it to normal dates.

Hi @samnaw

After adding the date column to a visual, click on the down arrow beside the date value in the visual's columns, and select date rather than hierarchy.  You'll see that Hierarchy is selected by default

Note that the name of the column will be whatever the column is called (sounds obvious).  So you aren't looking for an option in the menu called Date, it'll be whatever the column is called e.g. here, my column of dates is called Banana so I need to select Banana rather than Date Hierarchy

Hi @samnaw

I should also add that if you create your own Date Table and link that to your imported data, these auto-created hierarchies won't be created.

See example PBIX file

Plenty has been written on Date Tables e.g.

Set and use date tables in Power BI Desktop - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
