I'm using the latest version of Power BI, i.e, 2.99.862.0 (November) and I have also turned off data load settings for autodetect and importing relationships.
Even then, my report is getting stuck on 'creating connection in Model' while refreshing the report. Please refer the image below:
Can someone please let me know how to fix this?

@Anonymous a few questions to help us get to the bottom of this:
1. What data sources are you using? Is your report using Direct Query?
2. Does it fail consistently?
3. Could you try turning off the "Power BI Desktop Infrastructure Update" preview feature and see if still occurs?
Thanks!

Hello Taylor,
Greetings!
The data source is an Excel file and yes it does fail consistently.
It takes a lot of time to refresh the report with new data (around an hour) and goes through the 'evaluation' part really quick, however, gets stuck at 'creating connection in Model' while refreshing.
I have several small tables connecting into a single union table comprising of 120,000 rows and 27 columns of data.
Moreover, I can't see the "Power BI Desktop Infrastructure Update" option in the 'preview features' tab of 'options and settings'.
Can you please let me know if there's any way to cut down the refresh time? 🙂
Thanks in advance

Hello,
I couldn't get the opportunity to test it with other versions due to some IT related restrictions, however, I kept the refresh on for a long period of time (about 40-50 mins) and it worked.
Thanks and best regards,
Kavish
@Anonymous , few users have faced this issue initially for Nov 2020 update
Check if find anything on issues -https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Issues/idb-p/Issues
If possible try refresh tables one by one and check
