General Question: Does it make sense to setup a Data Gateway on one's main computer?

That's it - I'm looking at the options for auto-updating data.  Would it make practical sense to have a data gateway setup on one's main computer, or is it really something that should be on a dedicated machine? 

My main computer doesn't *have* to turn off aside from updates, and it doesn't have to go to sleep either I suppose.

Probably not best practice but as long as it stays on should be OK. I wouldn't do it in an enterprise setting.
