Filter Pane Bookmarks not working on other pages

I've created a filter panel that is shown and hidden using two bookmarks ("Show Panel" and "Hide Panel") and the Selection Pane. This functionality works perfectly on the original page.

However, when I try to replicate this on any other page, the bookmarks stop working.

Problem: I have a group of objects ("Filter Panel Group") and a button. Clicking the button triggers a bookmark to show/hide the group using the selection pane, and it works perfectly. When I copy the entire "Filter Panel Group" and the button to a new page, the bookmarks lose theselection pane settings we are using for hiding and showing the panel.

The settings should be correct for the bookmarks:

I have  tried:

  1. Basic Copy/Paste: Copied the group and button to a new page. (Failed)

  2. Duplicating the Page: Duplicated the working page. (Failed)

  3. Rebuilding the Bookmark:

    • Ungrouped the objects on the original page.

    • Copied the individual objects to a new page.

    • Grouped them on the new page.

    • Updated the bookmarks to point specifically to the new group on the new page. (Failed)

  4. Blank File Test: I tested if this works in a new file, which it didn't.

Is it just not possible to copy a filter pane and use it on different pages, or is this a bug? Currently the only thing I can think of is creting separate bookmarks for each page. But as this is a template for potential 100's of other reports, this is not really an option.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi @bgizzle ,

The bookmarks only work for the specified page has reference on the documentation the bookmarks catpure the current state of a report page, so you cannot make it dynamic based on the page you have it.

In this case you need to rebuild your bookmarks for each page, so if you are creating a filter pane to be reused you need to build them time and time again.

One option to make this easier is to use the new PBIP format that stores the report in different folders / json files and then you can dio copy paste  and edit in a text editor making it easier to attach each page option to the bookmark.

Hi @bgizzle ,

Unfortunately, bookmarks are page-specific and don’t work across different pages. When you copy visuals (like a filter panel group and its button) to another page, Power BI assigns new internal IDs, so the old bookmarks don’t recognize the new objects.

What actually works:

  • Each page needs its own bookmarks to show/hide the filter pane.

  • If you know you’ll need the same filter pane setup on multiple pages, the best approach is to create a “template page” with the filter pane, buttons, and bookmarks already set up, and then duplicate that page before building out your content. It still means separate bookmarks, but it saves time on the setup.

  • As of now, there’s no way to have a single bookmark control a panel across multiple pages, and there aren’t any reliable workarounds or third-party tools to get around this.
