The Data Category is set to Uncategorized (we pull in state as well as country and region info), and as of the July update (downloaded 7/11), most of the territories are blank.  The report works fine with the prior months update.  I attempted to see if multiple data categories could be selected at the same time, but it only allows one selection.

Please change the Data Category from Uncategorized to Place. It should can fix your problem.

Yes, thank you.  The Place setting is working for us.

No, the file was not changed and has the same Data Category setting of Uncategorized.  What changed was most of the data was no longer displayed on the map (July Update).  The file still works fine in the June Update.  This issue seems to be with the Uncategorized data category no longer being able to recognize variable inputs (we have states, countries, and a few large towns-LA & NY in our data).  I put together a pbix file that shows the problem without company data.  Please see the link.

I am not very clear about your problem here. Do you mean that the data category you set before is lost in July 2017 version? If possible, could you please post sceenshot for your issue? A PBIX file is also preferred, you can share the pbix file through online file service like OneDrive.
