File was published but Disconnected

I have a report that uses a mixture of data sources.  Some in Snowflake and an excel file stored in OneDrive.  When I try to Publish the report to My WorkSpace (or any workspace, I'm an Admin) I get the notice File was published But Disconnected.  How do I resolve?  The other similar questions didn't seem to resolve the issue or weren't specific enough.

@Del235 Hey,
I will use below steps to troubleshoot my problem.

  1. Verify credentials for Snowflake and OneDrive in Power BI Service under "Settings" > "Datasets."

  2. Ensure any required on-premise data gateway for Snowflake and Excel connections is configured and operational.

  3. Check data source settings in Power BI Desktop for proper configuration.

  4. Review data connectivity mode; issues may arise based on settings.

  5. Save changes in Power BI Desktop and attempt to republish the report.

Thanks

Harish M

If these steps help resolve your issue, your acknowledgment would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Del235,

Thank you for your message. The error "File was published but disconnected" typically indicates that Power BI Service could not fully connect to one or more data sources after publishing your report. Since your report uses both Snowflake and an Excel file from OneDrive, this can occur if credentials need to be updated or if the data source connection is not properly recognized.
As @lbendlin mentioned please click on the “Open data source settings” link in the message to access your dataset settings in Power BI Service. Review and update credentials for each data source under “Data source credentials.” For the Excel file, ensure you are using a web URL path (for example, from SharePoint or OneDrive online) instead of a local folder path.
If Snowflake is in DirectQuery mode or requires secure access, check the data gateway settings under “Gateway connection” and confirm the gateway is online and properly configured.
Also, verify whether the dataset is in Import or DirectQuery mode, as this will determine if scheduled refresh or live credentials are required.

Thank you

There is a link in that message "open data source settings" - go there and specify/refresh the credentials in the service. You may first need to map gateway connections if you have on-premise sources.

Hi, here's a similar post. It would help if you can attach some photos with error messages:)
