I have an issue and it happned to me twice in the same project, I tried to open it as zip file but it dosen't work.
and there is
Solved! Go to Solution.
The error message indicates that the PBIX file is corrupted at the component level. This can happen due to several reasons:
Switching between different versions of Power BI Desktop
Using external tools that access or modify the data model
A sudden crash related to the database or external connection
To investigate what exactly went wrong, the file needs to be opened at the code or structural level — but this is a complex process that often requires dedicated tools, and in many cases, it might not be possible to fully recover the file.
Here are a few things you can try:
Check for AutoRecovery versions
Power BI sometimes creates automatic recovery files with a .pbix.autorecovery extension. You can check here:
mathematica
C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\TempSaves
Try reverting to an older version of Power BI Desktop
If the corruption happened after a version update, try opening the file with an earlier version of Power BI Desktop (if you know which one was used to create it).
Download the report from Power BI Service (if published)
If the report was already published to the Power BI Service, you might be able to download the latest version:
Go to the workspace
Click the “Download .pbix” option (available only if it was published from Power BI Desktop and download was not disabled)
Fallback to previous backup or version control
If you manually keep backups or use source control like OneDrive, SharePoint, or Git — try restoring an older working version.
If none of the above work, I recommend opening a support ticket with Microsoft and attaching the corrupted PBIX file.

Hi @AbdelrhmanSayed ,
Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.
If you have published this file, download the version from power bi service.
If double-clicking the .pbix file doesn't work, try opening Power BI Desktop first, then go to File > Open and select the corrupted .pbix file. If a yellow ribbon appears with the message “Open in autorecovery mode...”, click on it to open the file in its last saved state before the corruption occurred. Alternatively, you can check the AutoRecovery folder to see if a recovery file is available.
Or install an older version of power bi and try as the power bi got some updates.
