File Name Issue

Hi all,

Here's where I am trying to get to - I have a dashboard with several visuals based off of a report called Vehicle List.  Every day I download the latest and updated version of Vehicle List, name it the same as the existing file, overwrite, and then I just need to refresh in Power BI to update with the latest information.

Here's the problem - I download the latest version of the report and it will be appended with a (1), (2), (3), etc.  I rename it to just Vehicle List when I save the file, so the number at the end shouldn't matter.  When I load this file into Power BI though, it will load with the number at the end of the file, like when I downloaded it.  So, if I created a dashboard with file Vehicle List (the original), when I download the file the next day and try to refresh in Power BI, PBI doesn't recognize the file because now it is seeing Vehicle List (2), even though I renamed the file.

How is PBI seeing the original name for the downloaded file and how can I fix that?

Attached are examples of what is happening.  PBI is treating the worksheet as a folder, which is holding the original downloaded file, including the original downloaded file name.

Hello @randyrettig ,

you should have it without the number at the end, else power bi will recognise it as a new table.

I rename the file when I save it so there is no number, but Power BI is somehow seeing it with the original downloaded file name that has the number.  I've even tried renaming it something completely different - "Giraffeshavelongnecks.xls".  I load it into PBI and it will appear as Vehicle List (5) or 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, etc. - the name of the file when I downloaded.
