Failed to save modifications to the server. Error returned: 'OLE DB or ODBC error: [DataFormat.Error

Hey all,

Failed to save modifications to the server. Error returned: 'OLE DB or ODBC error: [DataFormat.Error] We couldn't convert to Number..
'.

I am getting this stupid msg and I am going to round house kick my laptop into space!

I am trying to load an excel file into a new PBI report, I have used this file before without issue...

I have converted EVERY column into text and I still get this message and when I go back into the query editor there is no indication anywhere as to where the error is coming from... All column bars are green!

what am I missing?!!?

Solution which works for me

  1. On sourcing the data, choose type text for the date columns instead of type date (I do this in Advanced Editor changing "type.date" to "type.text")
  2. Navigate to the 'Changed Type' step in the Applied Steps bar on the right of the page.
  3. Select the date column, which is currently formatted as text
  4. Use Data Type button in Transform tab to convert column to date
  5. If prompted, approve Insert Step
  6. In Change Column Type pop-up, select 'Add New Step' (this is not the default option)
  7. Click Replace Values drop down in Transform tab and select Replace Errors then type null into dialogue box OR Click Remove Rows drop down in the Home tab to Remove Errors

Hi @Anonymous,

Would you please check the data type of the column in your data source? Many situations will cause such problems, for example, the spaces in your data cause the data cannot be fully converted. Would you please share your advanced query/
