Export Matrix - Filters applied differently to Visual

I am using a matrix visual in power bi desktop which has a list of categories for the row headers and the years for the column headers and a sum of the amount as the data. This also produces a a total column.

I have applied a filter to show only those totals (i.e. all years) above a certain amount. The visual is correct when compared to a pivot in excel. However, when exporting the data from Power BI desktop the resulting file isn't the same and I think is instead applying the filter on each individual year rather than on the total.

Hi@PeteAP,

According to what you mentioned in your question," when exporting the data from Power BI desktop the resulting file isn't the same and I think is instead applying the filter on each individual year rather than on the total."

I am not agree with this point of view. In Power BI Desktop, you'll only have the option to export summarized data as a .csv file.

Unfortunately, current export to data feature only exports the data and is not able to keep raw visual design or styles.

As a workaround:

You can create a PowerPivot table in Excel. Or you can use Power BI Tiles add-in in the Excel to get matrix visual.

Also, you may try File-> Export to PDF instead in Power BI desktop. See: Power BI Desktop-export to pdf

If you want to implement this feature, you can also vote for the same type of request on the Power BI Idea forum: Allow Table and Matrix Data Exports to Match PowerBI Visual

Hope it helps.

I've attached some screenshots to show you the issue I'm seeing. The first screenshot is of the Power BI Matrix which is filtering all totals above 100,000. The second screenshot is a pivot of the the exported data summarised in the same way. As you can see, there are some missing values under the year column, so it looks like the exported data is applying the 100,000 filter on each year's totals whereas the Power BI visual is filtering on the Grand Total.

Are you able to help explain why this is happening and whether there is a solution?
