Export Data From Matrix

I have a matrix with many columns, including one LARGE text field called Notes. In the matrix visual the Notes column is collapsed because it scrolls infinitely otherwise (permanently hiding any values to the right of it). Since I can't scroll all the way to the right, I can't resize the Notes column either.

That's fine - I have instructions to tell the user to export data from the matrix to view this note field.

However, I am experiencing different results on export.

Export from Power BI Desktop while in the report gives the notes field.

Export from Power BI Web Report View does NOT give the notes field.

How can I allow the user to export with the Notes?

Hi @Anonymous ,

According to the Power BI documentation, the export option Data with current layout preserves the formatting of the visual, including number formatting and grouped (merged or unmerged) dimensions. However, this option is only available in public preview and may have some limitations or issues. One of the limitations is that the maximum number of characters per cell in Excel is 32,767, so if your Notes field exceeds this limit, it may not be exported correctly.

A possible workaround is to use the summarized data or underlying data export options, which export the data as a flat table of rows and columns. However, these options may not preserve the formatting or grouping of your matrix visual. Another option is to use a different visual that can display the Notes field without scrolling infinitely, such as a table or a card.

Choosing the "summarized data" option during Export achieved the result I am looking for. Thank you
