Hi @powerbiexpert22

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Forum Community. @ajaybabuinturi thank you for your inputs,
@powerbiexpert22 - Do not use the full file path or direct link to the Excel file. Instead, use only the root of the SharePoint site.

Incorrect example:
https://<company>.sharepoint.com/sites/DataEngineeringAnalytics/Shared Documents/KPI Management

Correct example:
https://<company>.sharepoint.com/sites/DataEngineeringAnalytics

Hi @powerbiexpert22,

To create a report in Power BI using an Excel file uploaded on a Teams channel, you can follow these steps:

  1. Select the Data Source:
    • SharePoint Folder/OneDrive: Since Teams files are stored in SharePoint, you should select "SharePoint Folder/ OneDrive " as your data source in Power BI. This will allow you to connect directly to the file stored in the Teams channel.
  2. Connect to the Excel File:
    • In Power BI Desktop, go to Home > Get Data > More... > File > SharePoint Folder/ OneDrive.
    • Enter the URL of the SharePoint site where your Teams files are stored. You can find this URL by navigating to the Teams channel, clicking on Files, and then selecting Open in SharePoint.
  3. Load and Transform Data:
    • Once connected, you can navigate to the specific Excel file and load it into Power BI.
    • Use Power Query to transform and clean your data as needed.
  4. Set Up Automatic Refresh:
    • To ensure your report is updated automatically whenever the Excel file is updated, you need to configure scheduled refresh in Power BI Service.
    • Publish your report to Power BI Service.
    • Go to the dataset settings in Power BI Service, and configure the scheduled refresh settings. Make sure you have the necessary permissions and credentials to access the SharePoint site.

By following these steps, your Power BI report will be connected to the Excel file in Teams and will update automatically whenever the data in the file is changed.

Thanks,
