Error when creating Power BI / Fabric Account

Hello!

This might be in the wrong section of the forums.

I'm new to PowerBI and I wanted to create an account so I could follow courses and start learning.

I have a personal domain which was required. The account seems to be created, but every single time I try to log in I get the error: "Sorry, that didn't work.". When I log in on my PowerBI iPhone app, it gives me the message "Almost there! Looks like you haven't turned on Power BI for your Office 365 account.. etc." With a button "Turn On". Pressing "Turn On" returns me to the "Sorry, that didn't work." page.

I do understand that PBI requires a Windows computer (I'm on a mac atm), but I'm not trying to download the software itself, I'm simply trying to get a confirmation that my account is up and running.

I've read I'm not the first person to get this error, but I have yet to find a solution for it.

Any clues?

Hey there!

Here are some possible issues that could be creating thsi problem:

  • 1. Power BI License Not Assigned:
Ensure that your Office 365 admin has assigned you a Power BI license.
If you are using a free account, verify that your domain is eligible for Power BI service access.
  • 2. Clear Cached Credentials and Try Again:
If you've attempted to log in multiple times, cached credentials may be causing issues.
Try logging out from all Microsoft accounts, clearing your browser cache, and logging in again.
  • 3. Try Logging in from a Different Device/Browser:
Since you're using a Mac, try using an incognito/private window or a different browser.
If possible, test the login process from a Windows device.
  • 4. Check Microsoft's Service Status:
Sometimes, Microsoft services experience temporary outages.
Check Power BI Service Status to see if there's an issue.

Hope this helps you find a solution!

The domain was eligible for Power BI service access it seemed, but the issue was resolved when my IT guy added Power BI Pro subscription to my account. The free version was for some reason making it hiccup.

Thanks for your solution to my problem 🙂

Thanks for all your inputs, Freginier!

I'll go through them later when I'll have some time and give you feedback.
