Hi @Jomo-Bez ,

Thanks for sharing the detailed error log. Based on your stack trace and error details (FileOpenException, DataModelLoadFailed), here are the most common causes and solutions for this type of issue in Power BI Desktop:

Possible Causes & Solutions:

  1. Corrupted PBIX File:

    • Your PBIX file might be corrupted, especially if Power BI cannot open and load the data model.
    • Try opening a backup/copy of the file, or restore it from version history if saved in OneDrive/SharePoint.
  2. Insufficient Memory or Disk Space:

    • Your system shows high peak virtual memory usage (70.6 GB). Make sure you have enough free RAM and disk space.
    • Try closing other applications and restarting your computer before opening the PBIX.
  3. Unsupported Custom Visuals or Preview Features:

    • Sometimes, certain preview features or custom visuals cause compatibility issues after an update.
    • Try disabling preview features one by one under Options > Preview Features, restart Power BI, and open the file again.
  4. Upgrade/Downgrade Power BI Version:

    • Rarely, a new Power BI release can break compatibility with some files.
    • Try opening the PBIX with a previous (or latest) version of Power BI Desktop. You can download older versions from the official archive.
  5. Check for External Data Source Changes:

    • If the PBIX relies on external sources (databases, files, etc.) that have changed or become unavailable, it can sometimes cause the model load to fail.
  6. File Path and Permissions:

    • Make sure the PBIX file is on a local drive you have full read/write access to. Avoid opening from network drives or synced folders if possible.

What to try next:

  • Try opening a different PBIX file to see if the issue is file-specific or general.
  • If only this file fails, try restoring a backup or using the “Recover Data” feature from Power BI’s start screen.
  • If all files fail, consider reinstalling Power BI Desktop.

If you’re still stuck, please let us know:

  • Does the issue happen with all PBIX files or just this one?
  • Did you recently update Power BI Desktop or Windows?
  • Are you using any special custom visuals or connectors?

Happy to help further if you can share more details!
