Error interacting with REST API: Couldn't resolve host name

I'm getting the following error when trying to access Google BigQuery using the Power BI Desktop Google BigQuery connector:

Unable to Connect

We encountered an error while trying to connect

Details: "ODBC: ERROR [HY000] [Microsoft][BigQuery] (100) Error interacting with REST API: Couldn't resolve host name"

I believe I have full permissions on the Bigquery data as I have no issues connecting to the same data set with on my personal Windows 11 laptop - it's the work Windows 10 one that's producing the error. I'm fully up to date on the latest March 2023 Desktop version of Power BI on both machines. 

Including the Billing ID had no impact. (I also tried the connector: Google BigQuery (Azure AD) (Beta) but it returns the same error.

I seen @Anonymous answer similar queries in the Community...any suggestions here please?

@Sullyball2a  could you please expand a bit on the workaround you found? You used a Dataflow to connect ot BigQuery data? I see exactly the same error you shared but quite honestly do not know how to start troubleshooting. I have full ownership over BigQuery resources, so is definately not a permissions issue.

While the solution I mentioned did work I ended up setting up an ODBC connection the BigQuery. I then configured a connection with the same name on the gateway server. On the plus side it allows me to copy my BigQuery SQL to the Advanced section in the ODBC connection. The negative is that I'm unsure of how I'll share that connection with others  - working through that at the moment.

The initial solution you asked for more detail on was using a Dataflow - by going to the shared workspace and adding a dataflow 

 Then navigating to Add new Tables:

Finally choosing the BigQuery Connector.

You need to install the SIMBA driver for the ODBC to BigQuery to work

Thanks for the details @Sullyball2a . At closer inspection, the issue on my side seems to be purely related to VPN and proxy settings on devices managed by my organization, sadly : (

I worked around the issue by creating a Data Flow in the Power Query service. Then I created a Desktop pibx file against the data Flow. Not ideal but it works for now.

@Sullyball2a , Clear Permission Under Data Source settings (Home Tab- > Transform Data)
