Error connecting using ODBC for MongoDB in PBI, Connection to Excel works fine.

I am trying to connect MongoDB to PBI.

I already setup Progress DataDirect for ODBC for MongoDB Driver and tested the connection.

I am able to connect to MongoDB in Excel using ODBC connector.

When trying in PBI Desktop, it gives me below error.

Details: "ODBC: ERROR [IM003] Specified driver could not be loaded due to system error 126: The specified module could not be found. (DataDirect 8.0 MongoDB, C:\Program Files\Progress\DataDirect\ODBC_80\drivers\ddmongo28.dll)."

Could anyone please help on this?

@Anonymous  , came across a similar error, i.e. Unable to connect to a Progress Data Direct Mongo DB ODBC data source), after a Java update, and this affected my x64 bit Power BI Desktop application.  I resolved the same by simply uninstalling and reinstalling the Power BI!  Presto! Done!

Went down this route because I observed, like others, that connecting to the same data source in Excel was successful (i.e. sample screenshot), yet on Power BI, this wasn’t working, hence concluding the fault was specific on Power BI.

If you find this useful, then flag as accepted solution.  Happy to clarify further.

Hi @Anonymous,

what kind of Excel & Power BI version do you use? 32 or 64 bit?

Kindly check the version of powerbi 32bit or 64bit and then install the mongo db odbc driver as per the version and do the settings with direct connection and configure it locally. then in power bi Getdata through ODBC to connect the DB. Reference Link FYI

@rajendraongole1  I am not able to even get the db / collection using ODBC connections.

Excel is able to pull the db/collections using the same DSN. only PBI gives me error when trying to connect

Could you help me how to use direct query to pull the db please? as my ODBC connection is giving driver related error as mentioned in original post.

Thanks and apprciate your time on this.

I am not sure of excel, but power bi requires system DSN, setup. And I am assuming that you have done that.

Make sure you have latest version of driver of DB and refer:https://docs.mongodb.com/bi-connector/master/tutorial/create-system-dsn/
