Error "Microsoft SQL: Integrated Security not supported."

We are experimenting with Datamarts in Power Bi. I created a workspace, then inside this Workspace I created a Datamart as an administrator. I then loaded some data into the Datamart and was able to connect to it from Power Bi desktop and run queries against it without any issue. I then added a user from our network to the Workspace and gave him "Member" level. This automatically gave him the rights to "Read, Write, and Reshare". When he uses the "OneLake data hub/Datamarts" connection all works well for him. However, when he tries to connect to the SQL point using the "SQL Server database" and adding a query, he gets the error "Microsoft SQL: Integrated Security not supported." We don't understand where that is coming from. Any ideas what could be happening? Do we have a permission issue?

Hi @lg01 ,

If I understand correctly, the issue is that you had the error when the user connected to the SQL point of the Datamart. Please try the following methods and check if they can solve your problem:

1.Ensure that the user is using Azure Active Directory authentication to connect.

2.Windows authentication is not supported.

3.Check if the suer has the necessary permissions to access the SQL Server.

I ended up opening a ticket with MS support. They suggested upgrading the Desktop Application to the release of January 2024. We did a test and worked

Same error here., it's happening on a report that was previouly working fine, and suddenly -without changes to the report- stop working. The PBI report is on the cloud and the error happened when trying to open the pbix file on the Desktop App, it's connects to a MS Fabric Datalake via Direct Query. The reports works fine on the cloud.

PBI Version: 2.128.952.0 64-bit (April 2024)

Goto data source settings from options and Edit permission --> Choose Microsoft Account --> Enter credentials --> Hit refresh. It should work

Thanks

You are trying to connect to your data source using Windows authentication, rather than your MS Organizational Account.

Go to ->> Data Source Settings

Then select your Fabric/OneLake data source

Then Edit Credentials

Then change from 'Windows' to 'MS Account' and log in.

That should resolve the issue.

Worked, thank you!
