Enterprise Gateway & DirectQuery Issue

Here are some of the details:

  • I am using an enterised gateway server (running locally on my surface pro 3)
  • I am connecting to a SQL server with a directquery report

I am having to restart the enterprise gateway service after undocking my surface pro 3, until I do this the data will not connect and because i'm on directquery it fails entirely. Also, if I turn off my surface and take it home at the end of the day no one can access my report.

My data in sql only refreshes once per hour on the hour.  Is there a better solution to add the data instead of directquery? I tried to see if I can just import it with schedule refreshes but i'm not seeing that option.

Any help woul be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Chris

Using the gateway successfully will rely on having your computer where the gateway is running always on and connected. You're right scheduled refresh sounds like a better option, it is supported with the Enterprise Gateway, make sure to update to the latest.

Make sure you configure the dataset to be import versus Direct Query before publishing your PBIX.
