Hi,
For organizational purposes I have multiple .pbix files. One with my main model but no reports, that is pushed to the Power Bi online service and other .pbix files with the real reports that are linked to the online dataset. If I change, for instance, measure names in my model, repush it, then visualisations that rely on these measures on "external" report files get errors as they linked to names that don't exist anymore. I have to replace manually the fields in these visualizations and re-apply all custom formatting to these fields.
Is there a tool that could help me editing the metadata of the visualizations, ex: just change the name of error fields and let the formatting unchanged?
thank you for any feedback.
Hello @abrebion,
Here are two approaches you can consider:
1. You can use Power Query to define parameters and functions in your main .pbix file that reference the measures and fields. Then, when you make changes to the measures, you only need to update the parameter or function in one place.
2. Power BI allows you to create template files (.pbit) that include the data model, measures, and relationships but exclude report pages. When you make changes to the template, you can reapply it to your other .pbix files. This will update the data model while preserving your custom formatting.
Should you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Hi,
thank you for your reply. When you mention using .pbit file, I can't publish such a file to Power BI online service, I have to publish a .pbix file. I don't see how I can use this option.
