The newest PBID x64 bit EXE install starts up 6 different "PBIDesktopSetup_x64.exe" processes in task manager and seem to hang indefinitely. The main log thread seems to finish and it installs in appwiz correctly, but the installer is still running in background when using switches; -silent -norestart ACCEPT_EULA=1 INSTALLDESKTOPSHORTCUT=0
To recreate the issue on Windows 10.0.16299 Enterprise x64
1. Install PBIDesktop_x64.msi (version 2.72.5556.701) - Switches; ACCEPT_EULA=1 /quiet
2. Install PBIDesktop_x64.exe (version 2.73.5586.661) - Switches; -silent -norestart ACCEPT_EULA=1 INSTALLDESKTOPSHORTCUT=0
3. Attempt to install PBIDesktop_x64.exe (version 2.73.5586.802) - Switches; -silent -norestart ACCEPT_EULA=1 INSTALLDESKTOPSHORTCUT=0
I'm getting this exact same instance with the latest Power BI Desktop 2.74.5619.621 when updating from 2.73. It installs but there are 6 different PBIDesktopSetup_x64.exe's running. And when deploying via SCCM and running the install from Software Center, it just hangs showing installing because the setup.exe doesn't end.
Were you able to find a way to fix this?
This same behavior now exists in the 2.73.5586.984 installer as well. It spins up a bunch of extra "PBIDesktopSetup_x64" processes in task manager and those never end up going away.
@ALvanti ,
Please run power bi desktop as administrator, If launching with administrator privilege isn't possible, contact your administrator to determine which security rules are getting applied that prevent named pipes from properly communicating, and whitelist Power BI Desktop and its respective subprocesses.
