Dynamic Project Tracker

Hello!
There are tons of project tracker examples, but they all have 1 thing in common. The stages or phases are all the same, like a dominoes Pizza tracker. However, we manage/track multiple project types and based on the type, there will be different stages/milestones. Data example below:

Project Type 1
- Stages: Submitted/Assigned/Discovery/Implementation

Project Type 2

- Stages: Submitted/Assigned/Discovery/Governance/Implementation

What I am trying to accomplish, is if I can build a project tracker that is dynamic and only shows the relevent stages for a project when selected, based on that line items project type. Any ideas if this is possible or where to start and/or what kind of objects/conditions to use?

Hi @JonDewar

You've provided a very detailed description, but it’s still not entirely clear what specific functionality you're looking for.

That said, it's important to keep in mind that Power BI is primarily a data visualization tool, not a dedicated project management system like Monday.com or Jira. While you can certainly build visualizations to track project progress against statuses, timelines, costs, and other metrics, Power BI does not have built-in project management workflows or automation features.

From a visualization standpoint, matrix visuals tend to offer the most flexibility for tracking dynamic project stages. You can use field parameters or slicers to dynamically filter relevant stages for each project type.

You can take a look at the linked guides:

Or also look at the visuals from the marketplace:
