Download Sharepoint Data into Powr BI

Hi Guys!

I am quite new to Power BI and am the only one familiar with it at all at work; I am trying to connect a sharepoint folder to BI so I can create a report and just have it automatically refresh each month once I update the data within Sharepoint. I always go to Get data - More - Sharepoint folder - Upload Root URL - and hit load data. I end up getting an error message. My issue is I am just using the root URL, so how would BI even be aware of what data in what specific folder I am trying to load? I would greatly appreciate help with this since I have been trying to find solutions online the past few days but for some reason cannot. If anyone can help me connect my specific SharePoint folder please let me know. I posted the error that pops up below.

"Load
Query2
This query does not have any columns with the supported data types. It will be disabled from being loaded to the model."

@ptencza , Please check the change type step in the power query, is there any data type that is not correct there.

Please share steps

@amitchandak The data isn't pulling in because it is only allowing me to link to my root URL; I have seen videos where people are able to login to their company's sharepoint it and access it that way. I just put in my root URL for sharepoint and it tries to pull data directly from it as opposed to letting me clarify which folder has the excel file I need it to pull information from. Thank you again for your answer, I hope my further description will hopefully help more!

HI @ptencza,

According to your description, It sounds like you want to get data from the SharePoint folder and used it as same as the folder connector, right?

If that is the case, currently you can't directly use the root folder path to get data. (I suppose this should be related to the API permission and security reasons) You need to specify which detail folder and file to get data. (the detail file path mapping part can be parameterized if you have multiple files with the same data structures)

Xiaoxin Sheng
