Direct Query with custom data connector not working

Hi

I have built a custom data connector to use Direct Query feature on Apache Kylin ODBC. Import working perfectly with ODBC but when I connect using Direct Query two problem I stuck after spend two days and narrowed down where the problem is - 

1. HideNativeQuery = true results in loading preview and loading schema but after selecting the column it throws error "OLEDB or ODBC error: [Expression.Error] We could not fold the expression to the data source. Please try a simpler expression". 

2. HideNativeQuery = false results in loading preview but failed in schema loading with error "OLE DB or ODBC error: [Expression.Error] We cannot convert the value NULL to type Table"

I am new to PBI trying to implement using the sample but stuck. Appreciate any help on this.

Hi sdiptapaul,

Apache Kylin currently doesn’t support query on raw data yet, some queries might fail and cause some exceptions in application. Patch KYLIN-1075 is recommended to get better look of query result.

Power BI and Excel do not support “connect live” model for other ODBC driver yet, please pay attention when you query on huge dataset, it may pull too many data into your client which will take a while even fail at the end.

Thanks for the response and clarified the question I had. Does custome data connector supports live connect like SSAS for other ODBC providers?

Hi sdiptapaul,

Power BI has built-in connector which support connecting to SSAS. So you don't need to configure a customer ODBC driver for SSAS.

Thank you for your response. I am pretty much aware of SSAS has live connect. My question was as multi dimentional cube or tabular cune only works with live connect opposed to direct query, does power bi custom connector supports live connect for other odbc like SupportDirectQuery=true?. Will this be possible if I go through our company support to see if you can provide support for live connect for odbc we are trying to use?
