Direct Query mode

Hi!

I'd like to connect to SQL server with direct query mode, but I have a few Excel file which is nedded to the model. How can I import these files without changing the mode to import instead of direct query?

Thanks for your help!

Cheers,
Máté

@Anonymous,

Excel is not a data source that supported directqurey. So currently, if you want to use Excel and SQL Server data source in a Power BI report, you need connect to them by using import mode.
https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-desktop-directquery-data-sources/

If you excel file is rarely change, you can import it to SQL Server database, and then connect to it in Power BI. So that you do not need to change connect mode to import.

Dear Charlie,

Thanks for your reply! Yeah I found the same way, I imported my excel files into sql so I could use the Direct Query mode. But mow I have the problem that some measure and functions does not have compatibility with Direct Query. Can I somehow write them in sql?

Best Regards,
Máté
